Siena was crowded with tourists, but the medieval charm of the city always came through.

Every weekend, the nine separate "Contrada's" (competitive city sections) practice their pageantry for the Palio, a serious horse race between the Contrada's that takes place in this city square, the "Il Campo", each summer.

We drove a day-trip out of Siena through the Tuscan countryside.  This is just one of the many hill towns we saw on the way...

... in the beautiful town of Volterra we stopped for lunch and saw fantastic Etruscan ruins...

After Siena we spent three days in Florence visiting all the important art museums.  This fountain was on a street corner near our hotel in the "Ol tranno" neighborhood.  We then drove to Venice...
